Peterhead Community Woodland Secures Funding

Peterhead Projects Limited has recently been informed of three successful funding bids for Buchan Meadows Community Woodland on the outskirts of Peterhead.

The 17 hectare site which has been granted a 25 year lease from Score Engineering is being developed as a community resource for nature conservation, outdoor education and recreation.

The additional funding will allow Peterhead Projects to purchase equipment and provide staffing to increase the number of visits to the site by schools, community groups and volunteer projects, such as the project being undertaken by Peterhead Academy Pupils to  clear a path though a conifer planation as part of the John Muir Award.

The Fairer Scotland Fund which tackles poverty and inequality have agreed to provide £14,287.00 meaning the purchase of computer equipment for Andy Devine, the Community Woodlands Officer  and will enable him to spend more time organising visits by community organisations,  volunteers activities and work experience groups.

The Forestry Commission Community Seedcorn Fund have awarded £4995.27 which will be used to develop a site management plan, pay for training courses and the purchase of educational and orienteering equipment for use by schools, youth organisations and community groups in the local area.

The final award of £750.00 comes from the Shell Small Grants Scheme which is administered by the Buchan Development Partnership. The Shell Grant will be used to purchase gardening equipment for use by the volunteers and community groups.
